Anxiety and Perfectionism

You are known for being the “planner,” the “giver”, and the “strong one,” but no one understands the pressure you feel to be perfect in all these areas. Overthinking about what others are thinking, what could go wrong, what you “should” be doing and where you “should” be in life leave you feeling overwhelmed and out of control.

All of this is causing anxiety. Anxiety is caused by thoughts that worry about an unwanted outcome. Your thoughts become fixated on the possibility that a past stressful situation will happen again or that an unwanted outcome could happen in the future. This is called the Anxiety Trap. When thoughts get stuck in the past or the future, you begin to believe that the unwanted outcome will likely happen. This then influences your decisions about the present, making moves based on fearful thought.

Therapy for Anxiety

Trying to unpack and organize all your thoughts and emotions can be very overwhelming. It can even lead to you becoming anxious about being anxious. It is hard to become aware of how your anxious thoughts are causing you stress while you are in a stressful situation.  This is how therapy can be helpful.

In the session, you learn about types of limiting beliefs that are causing you to get stuck in the Anxiety Trap. You are able to unpack and organize your racing thoughts in a judge-free space. You are no longer left trying to quiet all the different thoughts and control all the different emotions alone.

Therapy will teach you coping strategies, such as Self-Talk-Back, reality testing, and mindfulness-based stress reduction. You will increase your self-awareness about why certain issues cause anxiety and how to build confidence in those areas. Therapy can help you finally experience peace by teaching you how to let go.
